Choose your institution\u2019s role:<\/p>\n
Institutions have two roles. A single institution may combine both or choose only one:<\/p>\n
Identity Provider (IdP): The institution that manages user data and grants them access to the service globally. It must be an academic or research entity (university\/research centers).
\nService Provider (SP): The institution that provides internet access points (hotspots) to visitors from other institutions. It can be any entity such as universities, research centers, airports, museums, …
\nNote: An institution can play both roles (IdP + SP), which is the most common option.<\/p>\n
Joining Criteria<\/p>\n
For IdP: The institution must be an educational or research entity recognized by the Egyptian Universities Network \u2013 Supreme Council of Universities.
\nFor SP: There are no strict restrictions on the type of institution as long as it complies with technical standards and provides the service to all eduroam visitors free of charge and without discrimination.<\/p>\n
Technical Requirements (Technological)<\/p>\n
A- Identity Provider (IdP) Requirements:<\/p>\n
Providing a RADIUS server to connect with the infrastructure of the Egyptian Universities Network
\nEnabling EAP protocols that support mutual authentication and end-to-end encryption to protect user data.
\nMaintaining access logs for no less than 6 months<\/p>\n
B- Service Provider (SP) Requirements:<\/p>\n
Using the IEEE 802.1X standard and broadcasting a wireless network with the unified name “eduroam”.
\nSupporting WPA2 Enterprise encryption at a minimum (WPA3 is preferred)
\nProviding automatic IP address distribution (DHCP) and DNS settings for visitors.
\nNot modifying or intercepting encrypted user data.<\/p>\n
General Obligations<\/p>\n
The institution wishing to join must commit to the following:<\/p>\n
Complete separation between the eduroam network and the university\u2019s internal network to secure the infrastructure
\nInternet connectivity must be through officially licensed providers approved by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority
\nUsing modern security systems such as IDS\/IPS and preferably SIEM solutions for analyzing security incidents
\nRegularly updating administrator passwords and changing default network device settings<\/p>\n
Steps to Join<\/p>\n
Official Approval: Signing the eduroam policy and committing to its terms
\nTechnical Preparation: Setting up servers and access points according to the specified requirements.
\nCoordination with the Egyptian Universities Network: Providing technical contact details and geographic coverage locations to be included on the international map
\nTesting: Verifying successful authentication through the national RADIUS server of the Egyptian Universities Network.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
